NECHRONICLES by: Decrypter

Decrypter’s NECHRONICLES is a solid debut that wastes no time diving into the abyss. Hailing from Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, this blackened death metal outfit (formed back in 2011) channels cosmic horror vibes straight out of Lovecraft’s nightmares, blending crushing death metal aggression with black metal’s icy, atmospheric edge. The result? A 40-minute journey across 10 tracks that’s equal parts melodic hooks, blistering riffs, and suffocating darkness. From the opening title track, the album establishes its identity: tremolo-picked chills meet guttural growls and occasional melodic leads that give it a surprisingly dynamic feel for the genre. Standouts like “Until the Dark Unites Us Again” (with its official video out there) deliver that perfect mix of melody and brutality—think Behemoth’s theatrical flair crossed with early Nile’s ancient menace, but filtered through a modern Mexican lens. The production (handled at Tupa Monster Studios) is tight and heavy, letting the textures breathe without getting lost in the mix. It’s got those rich layers you mentioned: aggressive blasts, eerie atmospheres, and enough melody to keep it from being pure chaos. As a debut, it doesn’t reinvent blackened death metal, but it executes the formula with confidence and personality. The cosmic horror theme ties everything together nicely, making it feel conceptual without being pretentious. Fans of extreme music—especially those into blackened death like 1349, Belphegor, or even some later Vader—will find plenty to devour here.Perfect for blasting in the dark or headbanging through the void. Decrypter is positioning themselves well in the underground scene.Overall rating: 8/10
